He Dun becomes wealthy from growing melons and marries a wife. Village secretary Zhang Migui (played by Yang Zichun) initially opposes the villagers abandoning agriculture for melon farming, but when the melon farmers achieve a bountiful harvest, he refuses to pay Ding Yunhe the substantial remuneration stated in the contract.
