"Kangxi's Private Visits 2" follows the style of the original series with its satirical take on contemporary issues through a new-style period comedy. It is divided into three segments: "The Steamed Bun Story," "The Longan Story," and "The Xiapai Story." In "The Steamed Bun Story," set in the fiftieth year of Kangxi’s reign, Kangxi (played by Zhang Guoli) is deceived by local tyrants into working as a laborer in a gold mine while in disguise. The "Longan Story" takes place in the fifty-first year, where ailing Kangxi is urged by Consort Yi (played by Deng Jie) to have a royal physician attend to him, but his condition worsens due to fake medicine. After recovering, Kangxi punishes the wrongdoers. "The Xiapai Story" depicts Kangxi in the fifty-second year, as he exercises justice against nepotism. The classic period drama "Kangxi's Private Visits" has produced five works from 1997 to 2007. These five installments have maintained the series' unique style, capturing Kangxi’s approachable nature during his secret visits while also deeply portraying his authoritative side in punishing corrupt officials. The first four installments were directed and starred by Zhang Guoli, while the fifth was directed by Sun Shupei.
