Gus (Clint Eastwood) is a veteran scout for the Atlanta Braves, but he's been struggling lately. As he ages and experiences some vision problems, he's perceived as unable to adapt to the changing market, leading him to be assigned one last recruiting task to prove his worth. Gus's boss and friend, Pete (John Goodman), feels a bit hesitant and brings in Gus's daughter, Mickey (Amy Adams), to help him with this journey. However, it's not an easy task; since Mickey lost her mother at the age of six, their relationship hasn’t been great, and they awkwardly encounter young scout Johnny (Justin Timberlake) from a rival team along the way. Will the three of them be able to overcome these challenges together?
