Anthony (Jean-Pierre Léaud), 25 years old, marries Christine (Claude Jade) and opens a small flower shop downstairs that is well-loved by the neighbors. Although their life is ordinary, it is filled with small sorrows and small sweetness. By a twist of fate, he secures a job at a hydraulic company and meets the alluring Japanese woman Kyoko (Hiroko Berghauer) at work. He is deeply attracted to her exotic charm, and they fall in love. Soon, he separates from Christine. However, living with the Eastern beauty brings immense cultural differences, causing him to increasingly miss Christine.
