In the early 20th century, a flood swept in, separating Wen Alu from his mother for eternity, leaving only sorrow behind. Three years later, one night in Guangzhou, amid a dark and windy night, a shootout occurred at the "Huaqing" bathhouse, resulting in the deaths of the leaders of the "Juyuan Society" and "Yishui Pavilion." The young tailor Wen Alu inadvertently witnessed this scene, which dragged him into a life-threatening situation. In the chaos, the Juyuan Society's third-in-command, Yu Yilong, was mistakenly killed while trying to rescue the society's leader. Panicking, Wen Alu fled for his life. Luckily, he was saved by Song Fanghua, a female student from the "Lingnan" foreign school. Having just performed "Hamlet" without removing her makeup, she was mistaken for a handsome young man in the night by Wen Alu. Upon returning to the tailor shop, Wen Alu shared this strange encounter with Wan Xinlian, the innocent daughter of his master, who had long harbored feelings for him and was grateful to Song Fanghua, urging Wen Alu to express his gratitude. Unbeknownst to them, Wen Alu had already become the target of the vengeful thugs from both factions after losing their leader! The shootout at the "Huaqing" bathhouse was actually orchestrated by Chen Yunsheng, the second-in-command of the Juyuan Society, who coveted the position of the leader. His plan was twofold: to eliminate the former boss and frame Yu Yilong as the murderer of the leader, all the while pretending to be sympathetic to conceal the truth, thus controlling Yu Yilong and removing the biggest obstacle to his succession. Upon learning of the murder scene that night, Yu Yilong let the eyewitness go, which was a significant event, and immediately spread rumors, pinning the blame for the murder onto an unknown witness. Believing that Song Fanghua was a man, Wen Alu went to the foreign school to thank her but missed the chance to meet. Wen Alu's unique personality and wolf-like sharpness piqued Song Fanghua's great curiosity and interest, prompting her to invite him to meet. When she appeared dressed as a woman, Wen Alu barely had time to be surprised and was captivated by her extraordinary demeanor and intelligence. The foreigner Matthew, who had persistently pursued Song Fanghua, secretly saw Wen Alu as a rival in love. Zhao Cui'er, the impulsive and reckless only daughter of the former leader of the Juyuan Society, went to the Yishui Pavilion alone with a gun to seek revenge for her father. Yu Yilong rushed to help, lured away the pursuers, and was shot. Fortunately, he was rescued by Wan Xinlian, and afterward, Yu Yilong began to have feelings for Wan Xinlian, which also sowed the seeds of jealousy for Zhao Cui'er, leading her to see Wan Xinlian as a romantic rival and to resort to any means to frame her. Chen Yunsheng, having successfully taken the high position, further expanded by absorbing the Yishui Pavilion but became increasingly worried that the scheme to eliminate the former leader might be discovered. Thus, he issued an order to hunt Wen Alu and ramped up the search for him. With great ambitions, Wen Alu vowed to buy an expensive nanmu coffin to give his parents a grand burial. Boasting in Haikou, he soon realized how difficult it was. His unwillingness to give up drove him to seek opportunities to earn money. Just then, a well-off businessman, Li Baoyin, faced a crisis from foreign goods and decided to resist. The German merchant Hans first stepped in to challenge Li Baoyin with a boxing match. Unexpectedly, Hans brought in an American boxing champion, and Li Baoyin's hired fighters were all knocked out. Wen Alu, tempted by the high rewards, stubbornly endured the fierce competition, earning respect from the audience despite his defeat, and the crowd went wild! Among them, Song Fanghua shed tears for Wen Alu's unyielding spirit; if he had only intrigued her before, at this moment, he had captured her heart. Overnight, Wen Alu became the celebrated young hero of the entire Yangcheng. By casually boasting, Wen Alu truly achieved his wish and buried his parents in a nanmu coffin. However, this inadvertently provided Chen Yunsheng with clues to find the scapegoat. Wen Alu was captured and brought to the riverside for execution. Fortunately, Yu Yilong arrived just in time and, remembering Wan Xinlian's life-saving grace, pleaded for Wen Alu with Chen Yunsheng. Wen Alu also loyally refrained from revealing Yu Yilong's involvement in the murder. Zhao Cui'er, unable to restrain herself, drew a knife to stab Wen Alu. Song Fanghua arrived with the police, and Chen Yunsheng and others fled in a panic, saving Wen Alu once more. After this ordeal and with Song Fanghua's inspiration, Wen Alu was stirred with a strong desire to rise above mediocrity and his current status. Hans also took notice of this indomitable Chinese boy in the boxing ring and tried to lure him into the foreign firm. Wen Alu was tempted and resolved to change his ways and become someone of importance. Upon entering the firm, he fell into Matthew's hands and was assigned to do menial work. However, being opportunistic, he posed as Matthew and managed to seal a big deal. Of course, Matthew would not let Wen Alu have his way and falsely accused him of stealing, sending him to the whipping post. To crush Wen Alu's pride, Matthew declared that if Wen Alu confessed, he would be spared the punishment. Wan Xinlian urged Wen Alu to confess, but Song Fanghua insisted that reputation was more important than anything else. Wen Alu chose to defend his honor, gritting his teeth through the painful lashes that tore his skin, further bringing him closer to Song Fanghua, while Wan Xinlian sensed the shift in Wen Alu's feelings and became sad. Just as one wave receded, another rose; Matthew, unwilling to be outdone, deliberately dressed Wen Alu as a clown and forced him onto the street as a living advertisement...
