On November 30, 1969, proletarian revolutionary Tao Zhu passed away at the age of 61. Tao Zhu was from Qiyang, Hunan, and joined the Communist Party of China in 1926. He participated in the Nanchang Uprising and the Guangzhou Uprising. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, he held various positions including Secretary of the South China Bureau of the Central Committee and Second Political Commissar of the South China Military Region, Governor of Guangdong Province, First Secretary of the Guangdong Provincial Committee, First Secretary of the Central South Bureau of the Central Committee and Political Commissar of the Guangzhou Military Region, Vice Premier of the State Council, Executive Secretary of the Secretariat of the Central Committee, Minister of the Central Propaganda Department, and a member of the Standing Committee of the 8th Central Politburo of the Communist Party of China.
