In the 6th century BC, Confucius (played by Chow Yun-fat) was appreciated by Duke Ding of Lu (played by Yao Lu) and was promoted from a minor governor to the Grand Justice, allowing him to implement his political philosophy of governing by rites. However, the dominance of the three Huan clans in the court also posed significant obstacles for Confucius. He incurred the enmity of Ji Huanzi (played by Chen Jianbin) for preventing his household slaves from being buried with him. He accompanied Duke Ding of Lu to Qi for an alliance meeting, where he engaged in a battle of wits with Duke Jing of Qi (played by Ma Jingwu) and the minister Li Chu (played by Wang Huichun), protecting the interests of Lu and reclaiming three cities, subsequently being appointed as the prime minister of Dai. He proposed the policy of demolishing the three capitals, which led to a conspiracy by treacherous ministers. After the rebellion was suppressed, Ji Huanzi falsely transmitted a royal edict to dismiss Confucius. From then on, Confucius traveled with his disciples, including Yan Hui (played by Ren Quan) and Zi Lu, across various states. In the state of Wei, Confucius earned the respect of Duke Ling of Wei, receiving a salary of 60,000 dou of grain. He met the wife of Duke Ling, Nan Zi (played by Zhou Xun), and displayed the noble demeanor of a gentleman during their conversation... The theme song "Youlancao" is a comeback work after years of silence from the diva Faye Wong.
