The drama is set against the backdrop of Suzhou in the 1920s and 1930s, relying on a traditional spice family to narrate the bittersweet tale of a "Cinderella" who rises from her marriage into a wealthy family to establish herself within it. The intricate family relationships in the drama clearly define both the good and the evil sides. The ups and downs of the characters' fates serve as a perfect rendition of the traditional "Cinderella" story. A kind-hearted and persevering "Cinderella," a traditional business family experiencing turmoil, a complicated internal family struggle, and a song praising the goodness of human nature all constitute the style and tone of the entire drama. The drama creates an otherworldly courtyard limited to the show, based on a magnificent Jiangnan garden. It mixes elements of both the Eastern and Western worlds, as well as traditional and modern aspects from the Republic of China era. The emotional drama is crafted in a dramatic manner, highlighting conflicts and enhancing the intensity of the plot, cleverly combining "palace battles" with "family dramas." The Wang couple is harmed by "poisonous fragrance," leading to the family's downfall. Their only daughter, Dieqiu, conceals her identity and lives with the herbal merchant Yin family. Dieqiu dedicates herself to developing a legendary fragrance called "Drunken Butterfly," intending to lure out her father's murderer, but instead attracts countless colorful butterflies, as well as the brothers Chu Zixia and Mo Fuchun. The two brothers fall in love with Dieqiu at first sight, and she eventually enters the Chu residence, managing the entire spice business. Chu family's adopted girl, Ying, makes life difficult for Dieqiu out of affection for her brother Zixia; Dieqiu's cousin, Xiaodong, often helps Dieqiu through dangerous situations and finds herself in love with Fuchun. Dieqiu and Zixia fall in love, but she discovers unexpectedly that Chu father is her father's murderer! When confronting Dieqiu to apologize for her father's death, Chu father pleads for her mercy, but Dieqiu decides to cease her revenge. However, to fulfill Zixia and Dieqiu's love, Chu father commits suicide, causing a rift between Zixia and Dieqiu. After Chu father's death, Zixia falls seriously ill, and the Chu family declines. Dieqiu steps up to save the Chu family spice business and successfully regains market share. Ying continuously gives Dieqiu trouble, leading to her becoming blind. Dieqiu discovers that Ying is actually her half-sister, and despite the pressure, she repeatedly shows forbearance. Eventually, Ying comes to her senses and perishes with the bully Wu Jiedong; Fuchun also chooses to leave, yet the complicated love-hate relationship between Dieqiu, Zixia, and Fuchun remains unresolved, leading to an even more convoluted ending.
