In a rural area of Hokuriku, the couple Hehe dies in a car accident. Their eldest son, Hirodo, takes over the family business, while his diligent newlywed wife, Kyoko, manages the household amidst Hirodo's abuse and cares for his asthmatic younger sister, Kiyomi (Aimi Satsukawa). The eldest daughter, Sumika (Eriko Sato), who is struggling for her acting dreams in Tokyo, returns home for the funeral and also seeks new opportunities for her tumultuous career. The two sisters have not seen each other for several years and show no signs of familial affection. In fact, Sumika had insisted on pursuing acting against her family's wishes and even went so far as to confront her father, resulting in Hirodo getting injured in the chaos. To comfort his half-sister, Hirodo has an affair with Sumika and vows not to touch any other woman. Kiyomi witnesses this and later exposes their privacy through her manga.
