Mitzi (Sandra Hüller) has been weak and sickly since childhood; however, despite this, she decides to attend university for further studies. Her father Karl (Burghart Klaußner) supports her decision, but her mother Marian (Imogen Kogge) is opposed to it. Eventually, Mitzi becomes a freshman at the university, where she meets a man named Steve (Nicholas Reinke), and for the first time, Mitzi experiences the sweetness of love. After a period of calm and orderly days, Mitzi's old illness resurfaces, strange sounds and mysterious figures frequently appear around her, and Father Randall (Walter Schmidinger) even suspects that Mitzi is possessed by a demon.
