It tells the story of a pair of originally loving white-collar couples who experience an emotional crisis after the unexpected loss of their child. To save their marriage, they decide to change their environment and immigrate to Canada. Once in Canada, they realize that they cannot truly integrate into that society, and their spirits become extremely distressed. At this point, the wife Lin Nan (played by Zhang Ting) sensitively suggests to her husband Mao Qi (played by Ding Zhicheng) that he return to China, but he does not want to leave his wife to live alone. Thus, they discover that there is still love between them; they just hadn't figured out a way to bridge the gap before. They begin a new life of mutual support, dependency, sharing joys and sorrows, and working together. However, the good times do not last long as a young Canadian mixed-boy, Hai (played by Collin Ken Bennett), becomes infatuated with Lin Nan. He tries various ways to capture every moment of Lin Nan's life with his camera. At first, Lin Nan ignores him and gives him a stern warning about his filming behavior. Had it not been for Hai's mother finding Lin Nan one day to inform her that Hai is a terminally ill patient with only a short time left to live, Lin Nan would have simply let him pass by. Unbeknownst to her, fate plays tricks on people. After learning about Hai's condition, Lin Nan has new thoughts. Feeling powerless to save her own child who died tragically, Lin Nan decides to do her utmost to help Hai prolong his life. The kind-hearted Mao Qi initially supports Lin Nan, but after a while, he realizes that Hai has deep feelings for Lin Nan. Lin Nan's concern for Hai also makes Mao Qi feel jealous as a man, and he begins to feel pain again. Upon noticing the change in Mao Qi's mood, Lin Nan also feels a great inner conflict. To help Lin Nan complete her last duty, Mao Qi, after deep reflection, decides to return to Beijing.
