Truman (played by Jim Carrey) is an utterly ordinary man, except for some rather unusual experiences—his first love suddenly disappears, and his father, who drowned, seems to reappear before him; he is just like most American men in their thirties. This leaves him feeling deeply lost. He once tried to leave the place he had lived for many years, but couldn’t go for various reasons. Until one day, he suddenly realizes that he seems to be followed by someone, no matter where he goes or what he does. This feeling intensifies. Truman decides to escape from this place he has lived in for over 30 years at all costs to search for his first love. However, he discovers that he cannot escape. The truth is, in fact, cruel.
