In Beijing's Little Tail Alley live the carefree and innocent 80s-born Zhao Xiaowu (played by Dai Lele) and her spineless, timid, "underappreciated" toy designer husband, 70s-born Guan Jian (played by Tong Yue). As a DINK couple, they've decided not to have children, yet they haven't quite managed to live carefree: Guan Jian's father, who is abroad, left behind a spacious mansion, but with Guan Jian's workplace struggling and Xiaowu unable to find a satisfying job due to her high aspirations and low abilities, it's hard to imagine how they would manage without the help of their relative, the nanny Hua Jie (played by Wu Yuhua). Their friend Qin Dake (played by Xin Peng) and Xiaowu's best friend Lu Ning (played by Liu Min) have become a couple and lead a much more comfortable life. During the summer vacation, Xiaowu's sister, Xiao Chen (played by Yan Ni), brings her son Dong Xing (played by Dong Bowen) to stay. This child, whom Xiao Chen calls the "most well-behaved in the world," is actually a high-IQ, mischievous little troublemaker who loves practical jokes. Within a few days of arriving at Xiaowu's home, he has become the "King of Children," leading a group of diverse kids—Benbo (played by Zhang Xiaoyu), Little Goldfish (played by Wang Liang), Gao Chubing (played by Zhai Bingyan), and Chong Chong (played by Ni Hao)—in various hilarious antics in Little Tail Alley. However, an erudite robot (played by Yin Zeyuan) doesn't respect him and often comes up with clever ideas to embarrass him. Of course, beyond Dong Xing, the happy life shared by Qin Dake, Lu Ning, Grandpa Guan (played by Wu Minghong), Hua Jie, and the self-proclaimed upper-class parents of the robot is also unfolding simultaneously.
