After enduring 81 trials, Tang Seng (played by Xu Shaohua) and his three disciples finally reach Ling Shan to obtain the true scriptures. Having achieved their goal, the group rides clouds back to the capital city of Chang'an, where they meet Emperor Tang, Li Shimin (played by Zhang Zhiming), and recount their experiences in seeking the scriptures. This journey was truly fraught with difficulties and dangers. The Celestial River was obstructed by the Spirit King, endangering their lives; the Lion and Camel Ridge was plagued by three divine beasts from Ling Shan causing trouble; during this time, the disciples also developed misunderstandings, allowing the Six-Eared Macaque to take advantage of the situation and put on the show of the true and false Monkey King; furthermore, the Rhinoceros Monster from Jin Ping Fu impersonated the Buddha, deceiving people and stealing names, which attracted heavenly soldiers to eliminate the demon. The hardships over this long journey are hard to describe in words... This film is adapted from "Journey to the West," one of China's Four Great Classical Novels. Due to budget constraints at the time of its production, the original "Journey to the West" was not fully completed, and "Journey to the West: The Sequel" completes the missing parts.
