A rural youth named Xiangzi (played by Wang Zhaoxiang), who loves singing and performing, dreams of one day stepping onto the grand stage. To turn his dream into reality, he carries his guitar and arrives alone in Shanghai from his hometown. However, the road ahead is very tortuous; in the big city, he feels small and his future seems bleak. Yet, the optimistic and open-minded Xiangzi perseveres through it all. Along his journey, Xiangzi encounters many kind-hearted people, including a single mother named Hu Tao (played by Xuan Xuan), who, after many ups and downs, becomes a journalist and takes care of her autistic daughter alone; and Xu Zimo (played by Wu Qihua), a former famous television host who has retreated behind the scenes as a producer. Xu, whose self-esteem has taken a hit due to his wife's successful career, feels compelled to help the struggling youth when he sees Xiangzi. Many dreamers gather in this city.
