Ambassador Han (played by Tzi Ma) previously led the investigation into the smuggling operations of the Ching Tao criminal organization before being assigned to the U.S., which earned him the wrath of his enemies. In the U.S., Ching Tao orders his men to kidnap Ambassador Han's daughter, Soo Yung (played by Julia Hsu), demanding a ransom of 50 million dollars. The FBI launches a full investigation upon hearing the news, but Ambassador Han worries about their efficiency and insists on sending his old partner, Inspector Lee (played by Jackie Chan), from Hong Kong to assist. To prevent Lee from solving the case too quickly, the FBI pairs him with Detective Carter (played by Chris Tucker), a loud and problematic cop from the Los Angeles Police Department. Carter is flamboyant and high-profile, while Lee is skilled and low-key, leading to numerous misunderstandings and funny situations between the makeshift partners. However, as crises unfold, they gradually develop a mutual understanding. Will their rescue operation ultimately succeed? This film won the 1999 ALMA Award for Best Actress (Elizabeth Peña) and the 1999 MTV Movie Award for Best On-Screen Duo.
