The story takes place in a small village in the southern mountainous region, where Jin Zhu (played by Wang Yan) loses her husband Wang Da Meng in a mining accident, leaving her and her daughter Huan Huan to rely on each other. Wang Da Meng has a younger brother, Er Meng, whom Jin Zhu cares for as a mother. Jin Zhu not only looks after Er Meng's daily life but also helps him find a beautiful girlfriend, Feng Yue. However, there is a significant gap in values between Er Meng and Feng Yue. Er Meng wants to work hard in the mines to serve the country, while Feng Yue is worried about his safety and does not support his job, leading to their eventual breakup.
In fact, Er Meng has quietly loved Jin Zhu all along. After Feng Yue leaves, Er Meng confesses his feelings for Jin Zhu, but she, feeling both embarrassed and angry, rejects him. Nevertheless, Er Meng does not give up; instead, he seizes every opportunity to help Jin Zhu, and gradually, her feelings for Er Meng begin to change.
