Barfi (Ranbir Kapoor), who cannot speak or hear, is a happy young man. He is smart, resourceful, and often gets into trouble, making him both lovable and infuriating. His life changes with the arrival of Shruti (Ileana D'Cruz), but Shruti is already betrothed. After some persuasion from her mother, Shruti leaves Darjeeling to marry her "true love" in Kolkata, leaving Barfi heartbroken.  Barfi, still feeling low, faces another blow when his father is hospitalized due to kidney failure. The surgery requires 7,000 rupees. In a panic, Barfi thinks of a way to raise the money by kidnapping the autistic granddaughter Jhilmil (Priyanka Chopra) of a wealthy local family. However, someone else acts on this idea first, and through a twist of fate, Barfi unexpectedly encounters Jhilmil. When he finally raises the money and rushes to the hospital, his father has already passed away. Jhilmil, who holds a fondness for Barfi, refuses to go home, and Barfi reluctantly takes her on a journey. Together, they develop a bond of understanding and affection as they wander through the scenic streets of the city. Beneath the seemingly smooth surface, however, tension brews as Barfi encounters Shruti again and is mistaken for a kidnapper. Amid these changes, will Barfi be able to reunite and hold hands with Jhilmil once more?
