In the 1960s, the Bronx is home to a gathering of Italian-Americans in New York. The notorious mob boss Sonny (played by Chazz Palminteri) is a prominent figure in the local gang. At the scene of a murder, nine-year-old boy Calogero (played by Francis Capra) witnesses everything. To protect the neighborhood's reputation, Calogero refuses to identify the killer as Sonny, leading to a friendship between the two that resembles a father-son bond. However, Calogero's father, Lorenzo (played by Robert De Niro), disapproves, fearing his son will go astray. Eight years later, the seventeen-year-old Calogero (played by Lillo Brancato) has grown into a handsome young man. Sonny's influence is expanding, and Calogero increasingly admires him and yearns for the mob life. Honest and upright Lorenzo becomes more and more worried about his son. Directed by Oscar-winning actor Robert De Niro, the film "A Bronx Tale" was nominated for the Golden Lion at the 50th Venice International Film Festival in 1993.
