Stephen (Mark Ruffalo) and Bloom (Adrien Brody) are brothers who have relied on each other since childhood. They are skilled con artists, which has led to repeated abandonment by their adoptive parents. Gradually, they became accustomed to this lifestyle. In their schemes, Stephen always plans the big picture while Bloom carries out the execution. As they grew up, the brothers continued to live by conning others, and they gained a new partner—Bongbong (Rinko Kikuchi), a quiet yet exceptionally skilled Japanese girl. The three of them worked together and succeeded multiple times, but Bloom grew tired of this false life. At this point, Stephen plans to con a young wealthy woman named Penelope (Rachel Weisz), who lives alone, assigning Bloom the role of swindler for both money and romance.
