Zhou Ruofen (played by Zhang Aijia) is a successful fashion designer whose six-year-old son, Xiao Wei, suddenly goes missing just before a fashion show. Xiao Wei often carries a wooden sword while playing sword-fighting games with his friends. The investigator in charge of the case, Detective Zheng Zhong (played by Eddie), discovers a hidden conspiracy during his investigation… This film is the debut feature directed by emerging Taiwanese director Ko Yi-cheng, starring Zhang Aijia in 1983's "The Sword-Wielding Kid." In 1983, the Taiwanese branch of Uniden City hired Zhang Aijia as the director. After taking office, she formulated a production policy of "separating Taiwan and Hong Kong," adopting a different production strategy from the parent company to create "local Taiwanese art films." She employed young and middle-aged directors to produce four uniquely themed and styled films: Lin Qingjie’s “On and Off the Stage,” Ko Yi-cheng’s “The Sword-Wielding Kid,” Yang Dechang’s “A Day at the Beach,” and Yu Kanping’s “Wrong Car.” These films received unanimous acclaim from film critics in Taiwan and Hong Kong, establishing the Taiwanese branch of Uniden City as an important incubator for new Taiwanese cinema.
