Anthony Di (Karina Lombard) lives a dependent life with her brother Daniel (Ben Thomas) and their mother Annette (Rachel Ward). The immense pressure of life and their tight finances lead Annette to eventually marry a cold British businessman. A slave revolt takes the young life of Daniel, and Annette cannot cope with the blow, driving her to madness. In light of this, Anthony Di's stepfather settles Anthony Di and her mother before returning to England, after which there is no word from him. Anthony Di gradually grows up and, in order to inherit her stepfather's wealth, accepts the marriage arranged for her by him. However, the painful childhood experiences leave deep scars on her soul, leading her to almost pathological fears of her husband's betrayal and abandonment. But the more one fears something, the more it manifests; when Anthony Di discovers the affair between her husband and their Black maid, she collapses.
