Jerry (Norma Shearer) and Ted (Chester Morris) are in love with each other, while Paul (Conrad Nagel) is also deeply in love with Jerry. Ultimately, Jerry decides to choose Ted, rejecting Paul, which leaves Paul feeling very heartbroken. Distraught, Paul gets into a car accident that disfigures Dorothy (Judith Wood), who was with him. Out of guilt, Paul decides to marry Dorothy, whom he does not love. Years pass quickly, and Jerry and Ted's marriage is not as happy as they had imagined. Ted spends all his time at various parties and is rarely home, while Jerry can only drown her sorrows in alcohol. One day, Jerry and Paul reunite, and Paul still loves Jerry. Their relationship begins, despite being frowned upon by society.
