This is an exceptional film about the relationship between humans and nature. In 1902 and 1907, Russian officer Arseniev led exploration teams to the Ussuri region, encountering the elderly Hezhen hunter Dersu Uzala both times. Dersu Uzala served as a guide for the expedition and saved Arseniev's life, establishing a deep friendship with him. Dersu had a great understanding and respect for nature, and through his examples and insights, he helped people appreciate the greatness and cruelty of nature; humans can coexist peacefully with nature, but when nature is damaged, humans will be the first to suffer. Dersu was an excellent marksman, but later, during a hunt, he discovered that his eyesight had deteriorated with age, causing him great frustration as he could no longer see his prey clearly. He moved to the big city of Blagoveshchensk with Arseniev. However, Dersu could not adapt to urban civilization; the city was completely different from the pristine natural land on which he had relied for survival. A hunter without a gun, away from his familiar environment, was like a fish out of water. "You can’t hunt in the city, without hunting there are no sable," he said. "I suddenly miss the air." He felt as if he was imprisoned and was melancholic. Dersu insisted on returning to the mountains, back to the dense forest. However, for a hunter, having poor eyesight was the greatest tragedy. If the hunter cannot hunt, he himself will be hunted. Brave Dersu carried the new rifle that Arseniev had given him, but he still died...
