This film depicts three romantic stories set against the backdrop of Vietnam's landscapes: In spring, a country girl named Xin is hired by a wealthy family to pick white lotus flowers. Every day, while gazing at the scenic lotus pond, she hums folk songs with other female workers. Her singing attracts Mr. Du, who suffers from leprosy. As she copies poems for him, a friendship blossoms between the two despite their age difference; In the dry season, a rickshaw driver named Hai accidentally meets a prostitute named Lien. She often describes the luxurious life in five-star hotels to him, but he simply longs for her. Gradually, their relationship undergoes subtle changes; In the rainy season, a veteran of the Vietnam War, James (played by Harvey Keitel), encounters a street vendor named Woody in a bar, and discovers a lighter from the Vietnam War among Woody's goods.
