Just after turning 20, Paulina meets the Protestant pastor Jean, who is already married with his own family. However, they meet, get to know each other, and fall in love. Jean simply resigns himself to his fate and his failed marriage, as the pressure of the Protestant community surrounds them, leading them to accept the fate of their emotions. Despite the ever-changing world and the twists of fate, the power of love far exceeds the passage of time. A remarkable social chronicle spanning over thirty years, set against the dual backdrop of internal conflicts within traditional families and external societal turmoil, the love theme is handled with numerous twists by the director. Filled with picturesque French pastoral scenery, gorgeous costumes, and a dramatic storyline, the film exudes grandeur. This film, rich in the colors of a great romantic epic, has largely made the director well-known, and it is a cinematic masterpiece that skillfully blends the classical and the modern.
