Twenty years later, Victor falls in love with a girl named Elena, who he has a fling with, but she stands him up on a date. Angered, Victor visits Elena, only to be threatened by her with a gun due to her drug addiction. As they face off, police officers Sancho and David (played by Javier Bardem) happen to pass by. Prior to this, a drunken Sancho was venting to a colleague about his wife’s infidelity. During the confrontation, David is shot in the leg by Victor, leaving him paralyzed and sending Victor to prison. Six years later, after serving his time, Victor sees disabled athlete David on TV, representing Spain in the 1992 Barcelona Paralympics and winning a gold medal in basketball. Victor seeks revenge against David but ends up working with David’s wife, uncovering an astonishing secret hidden behind this ironic twist…
