A ten-year-old girl (Bertille Noël-Bruneau) encounters a fox catching a field mouse on her way to school. The girl is captivated by the beautiful fox and hopes to see it again after school in the same spot in the forest. From autumn to winter, she searches for the fox along its paw prints in the thick snow but slips and breaks her leg, spending the entire winter indoors reading many books about foxes. Spring is hunting season for foxes, and the girl, worried about the fox, joyfully discovers its den and three little cubs, only to find that the fox has sensed human scent and has moved its young overnight. The girl decides not to disturb the fox but sits in a beech tree waiting for it to appear on its own. Thus, the relationship between the girl and the fox slowly develops, leading to wonderful forest adventures together... The film's animal trainer is Marie-Noëlle Baroni from France, and the six foxes, along with many other animals featured in the film, come from her farm.
