Rudy (played by Georg Friedrich), a genuine Aryan, is a mutual friend who shares a close bond with them. Viktor has a collection that includes a painting by Michelangelo, which unexpectedly becomes a turning point in the fate of the three. The war breaks out, and Jews become targets of the Nazi massacre. Viktor is sent to a concentration camp, and the painting he collected is confiscated by Rudy, who is now an officer in the village; it becomes a "tribute" to appease the Italians. Unexpectedly, the painting is identified as a forgery, and Rudy is ordered to find Viktor, as only he knows where the original is hidden.
