Female writer Leo (played by Marisa Paredes) has been writing romance novels under the pseudonym Amanda for over twenty years. However, she recently hit a creative block, and her husband, who serves in the military, has been away for a long time, causing tension in their marriage that distracts her from writing. Even a pair of boots can trouble her. Through her friend Betty's introduction, Leo meets editor Ángel (played by Juan Echanove). Although Leo rejects his job offer, Ángel's sharp insights leave an impression on her. Meanwhile, the publisher is quite dissatisfied with Leo's current situation, demanding she get back on track or risk exposing her deeply guarded true identity. When her husband finally returns home, he quickly leaves again, stating that their marriage is over. Heartbroken, Leo attempts suicide but is saved by a call from her mother. Ángel enters Leo's life during her moment of helplessness, offering to share Amanda's secret with her. Betty admits to having had an affair with Leo's husband. Indifferent to pursuing her marriage, Leo retreats to the countryside with her mother for rest and, influenced by those around her, finally emerges from her gloom. The film won several professional accolades, including Best Actress at the 1996 Karlovy Vary International Film Festival.
