Written by Troy Kennedy Martin, this film tells the story of five resourceful soldiers during World War II who lead a team of American troops in tanks to break through German lines and rob a bank behind enemy lines of over ten million dollars in gold. Director Brian G. Hutton attempts to shoot a war adventure film with a comedic approach, but the results are less than ideal. However, the main characters each have distinct personalities and give good performances, especially Clint Eastwood, whose performance received acclaim from audiences. With a fanciful storyline, the film still maintains a certain level of entertainment.
