Female reporter Rachel (Kate Beckinsale) receives information from a source regarding a rather unscrupulous action by the government. With the support of her husband Ray (David Schwimmer), she publishes this news report. Eventually, the government charges Rachel with leaking state secrets, and the case is presided over by the arrogant prosecutor Patton (Matt Dillon). In court, facing Patton's relentless questioning, Rachel calmly recounts the events, and public opinion begins to sway in her favor. However, Allen insists that Rachel must reveal her source, and she gradually finds herself in a dilemma. Allen starts to apply pressure on public opinion and Rachel's family, while Ray also begins to succumb to the pressure from the state, suggesting that Rachel yield. But Rachel expresses her resolve to Ray: truth above all.
