The story takes place in the early 1980s, during a turbulent time in South Africa marked by the apartheid policies. Patrick (played by Derek Luke) is a supervisor at an oil refinery, married to his wife, Priscilla, for many years, and they are raising two lovely daughters together, living a very happy life. The increasingly severe racial discrimination ignites a fervor among the local black population, who express their anger through violence and destruction. An explosion occurs at the refinery, and Patrick, as the person in charge, is arrested by the police. Despite there being no concrete evidence proving that Patrick is responsible, he suffers inhuman treatment in the police station simply because of his skin color, and his wife also becomes embroiled in the situation. After being released from prison, Patrick feels a profound despair towards reality and decides to join the African National Congress.
