The skilled blind masseur Zatoichi (played by Katsu Shintaro) travels through the world and is invited to massage the prince of the Kuroda family while passing through Sekiyado. Unexpectedly, the prince behaves erratically, and to prevent family disgrace, the Kuroda family orders samurai to ambush Zatoichi on his way home, but all the assassins fall to Zatoichi's blade. While evading his enemies, Zatoichi encounters a gentle woman, Oseki (played by Mizutani Yoko), who reminds him of Chiyo, the person he once deeply hurt. After a brief stay, Zatoichi continues his journey to pay homage to the late Heihachi, whom he killed, returning to Sasagawa, while the mob boss Kanbei (played by Sawamura Sojiro), bribed by the Kuroda family, leads his men closely behind. Meanwhile, the one-armed rogue Shiro (played by Wakayama Tomisaburo) and his little brother Sanzō (played by Nakamura Yutaka) are staying in Sasagawa, and a fateful clash becomes inevitable...
