In the French countryside of 1949, musician Clément (played by Gérard Jugnot) arrives at a boys' boarding school nicknamed "Fond de l'Étang" to work as an assistant teacher. Most of the students there are troublesome children, and corporal punishment is commonplace. The school principal (played by François Berléan) is more concerned about his own future and rules with an iron fist. Clément, a calm and reserved person, tries to改善 the situation using his own methods. He rearranges musical works, organizes a choir, and decides to use music to open the closed hearts of the students. However, things do not go smoothly. Clément discovers that student Pierre Morhange (played by Jean-Baptiste Maunier) possesses extraordinary musical talent, but having grown up in a single-parent family, he is unusually sensitive and withdrawn. Clément struggles with how to unleash Pierre's musical potential; at the same time, his relationship with Pierre's mother becomes increasingly complicated.
