Lockhart (played by Dane DeHaan) is sent to a sanatorium located in the Alps to bring back the company’s CEO who is undergoing treatment there. On the way back, Lockhart gets into a car accident, fracturing his left leg. With no choice, he must temporarily stay at the sanatorium to recover. During his stay, Lockhart meets the mysterious girl Hannah (played by Mia Goth). The eerie atmosphere of the sanatorium and the series of scientifically inexplicable events surrounding Lockhart make him begin to doubt the nature of the institution's operations. The ambiguous relationship between Hannah and the chief doctor Dr. Volmer (played by Jason Isaacs) further alerts Lockhart to the suspicious nature of the events. Eventually, Lockhart uncovers the secrets hidden within the sanatorium, and at the same time, his nightmare begins.
