14-year-old middle school student Kaho, living in a divorced family, is caught stealing nail polish at a supermarket by the manager, Naoto Aoyagi (played by Tori Matsuzaka). After being exposed, Kaho attempts to escape, but Naoto pursues her closely. An accident occurs; while crossing the road, Kaho is initially hit by a private car and then run over by a truck, leading to her death. Seeing his daughter's tragic condition, fisherman Mitsuru Tenda (played by Arata Furuta) is devastated, firmly believing his daughter is innocent and that Naoto must have ulterior motives regarding her.
