Xiao Qiang (played by Yin Xiaojun) has lived with his father on the mountain until one day his grandfather decides to send him to the city for a better education. At first, Xiao Qiang struggles to adapt to city life and longs to return to the mountain, showing no interest in school or books. His grandfather loses patience and takes extreme measures to tie him up, forcing him to go to school. At school, he looks for his friend Wenwen (played by Xu Cuixue), whom he met on the mountain, but fails to find her. Instead, he encounters a group of martial arts enthusiasts who challenge him. Xiao Qiang tries to use the martial arts skills he learned on the mountain to compete, but faces setbacks. However, Xiao Qiang does not get discouraged; he joins their ranks, practices hard, and ultimately makes progress. Meanwhile, he learns about Wenwen's family's financial difficulties, and to help her, Xiao Qiang asks his grandfather to lend money. His grandfather proposes a bet, promising to provide support as long as Xiao Qiang shows improvement in his studies. Xiao Qiang keeps his promise and works hard. However, just as he seems to be approaching victory, the creditor kidnaps Xiao Qiang and Wenwen's brother, forcing the grandfather to raise the ransom.
