Hamilton (played by Clark Gable) is a lawyer leading a mechanical and rigid life, characterized by his meticulous and orderly personality. One day, the news of his brother's death shatters Hamilton's peaceful existence. To handle his brother's affairs, Hamilton travels to Italy and is shocked to find out that his brother has left behind a ten-year-old son, Nando (played by Marietto). Nando has been poorly disciplined, with a mischievous and domineering personality, and at this time, he is being cared for by a nightclub singer named Lucia (played by Sophia Loren). Lucia is stunningly beautiful and has a fiery, free-spirited personality.
