In 1984, inspired by the master of the Tachikawa school of rakugo, Tachikawa Danshi (played by Takeshi Kitano), ordinary high school student Sasaki Nobuyuki (played by Kazunari Ninomiya) decides to drop out of school and apprentice under Tachikawa to become a rakugo performer. As an anomaly in the rakugo realm, Tachikawa's unconventional style proves challenging for his apprentices. He breaks tradition by charging tuition, assigns them various menial tasks, and resorts to harsh criticism if unsatisfied. Some leave him due to the pressure, while others choose to learn from different masters due to differing philosophies. In pursuit of his dream, Nobuyuki, now known as Danshu, even has a falling out with his parents. After finally earning his master's favor, he suffers missed opportunities and is sent to the Tsukiji fish market for training. During this time, a talented junior (played by Gaku Hamada) emerges, while fellow seniors Tan Tan (played by Akito Kitamura) and Kansai (played by Daisuke Miyakawa) also undergo their own internal struggles. In the face of their dreams, Danshu and his companions run with all their might… This film is based on the life of renowned rakugo master Tachikawa Danshi.
