The story takes place in a remote and barren mountain village. Zhang Baomin (played by Song Yang) is a miner. One day, he is called back home by his wife Cui Xia (played by Tan Zhuo), only to find out that their son is missing. With his son's photo in hand, the mute Zhang Baomin sets off on a journey to find him.
