In 1940, Polish champion boxer Teddy participated in the armed forces defending Warsaw during the siege. When Warsaw fell, he was captured while fleeing to France and became one of the first prisoners sent to Auschwitz concentration camp. Life in the camp was precarious, and underground boxing matches, seen as a game by Nazi soldiers, became an important struggle for Teddy's survival. However, the series of inspiring victories raised the alert of the Nazi commanders to the prisoners’ resistance awareness, leading to stricter control. As conflicts gradually intensified, winning became a brutal path to survival in the concentration camp. Polish emerging director Maciej Balczewski's debut feature film brings to the big screen the story of the neglected Warsaw boxing champion after the war. The prisoner with the number "77" won 40 fights within three years, and his struggle became the collective memory of Auschwitz survivors. Polish gold medal actor Piotr Glowacki portrays the most "painful" role in Polish film history through intense physical training. "My grandfather was a concentration camp survivor, and this story has always been part of my blood." -- Maciej Balczewski
