Frank (played by John Hawkes) loses his wife, who passes away before him. Before she dies, she entrusts her ashes to Frank, asking him to scatter them on the soil of her hometown in Ireland. Thus, Frank embarks on a journey to Ireland, and according to his wife's last wish, he has to bring along his estranged son, Sean (played by Logan Lerman). For Sean, he is so reluctant to even see Frank, let alone travel with him. However, a series of unexpected events force him to temporarily concede, agreeing to his father's request in exchange for a free ticket to the West Coast. Along the way, the father and son constantly argue, finding disagreements in almost everything.
