During the "Gang of Four" rule, extreme leftist ideology was severe. The honest farmer Jiang Maofu (played by Zhang Yan) was labeled as "going down the capitalist road" simply because his fruit trees were better than others and he had a bit of money. This caused his son Guigen (played by Kou Zhenhai) to struggle to find a romantic partner. Guigen and Qingliang's (played by Zhong Xinghuo) daughter Lanhua (played by Gu Yuqin) unexpectedly meet and are interested in each other during a mistakenly arranged blind date, but Qingliang strongly opposes due to Maofu's reputation. A reporter happens to interview a typical example of "wealth," and Maofu becomes popular, prompting Qingliang to rush to propose, but is rejected by Maofu instead. Guigen and Lanhua fall in love freely, and on their wedding day, Maofu is again labeled as a black typical example. Qingliang forcibly takes Lanhua away at the wedding. After the "Gang of Four" falls, Maofu is rehabilitated. Lanhua's true feelings for Guigen move Lanhua's mother (played by Ouyang Ruqiu), and under the pressure from mother and daughter, Qingliang proposes again at Maofu's door, bringing the long-lost laughter back to Moon Bay...
