In the 1970s, the young Scottish doctor Nicholas Garrigan (played by James McAvoy) arrived in impoverished Uganda with great ideals of saving lives for the needy. There he met his white colleague from the medical association, the beautiful Sarah (played by Gillian Anderson), and was deeply attracted to her. At a gathering, Nicholas had the opportunity to meet Ugandan President Idi Amin (played by Forest Whitaker), whose speeches fascinated Nicholas and even led him to fervently admire him. After the meeting, he helped Amin after an accident, earning recognition for his Scottish identity. He then becomes the president's personal physician, getting closer to this brutal ruler... The film is adapted from Giles Foden's novel of the same name, and Forest Whitaker won the Oscar for Best Actor at the 79th Academy Awards for his performance.
