In the international metropolis of Tokyo, Japan, Nagamine Takeshi (portrayed by Matsuyama Kenichi), who grew up in the mountains, is now struggling as a trader in the financial circles. One day, he receives a call from his mother (portrayed by Dan Fumi) from their hometown, informing him that his usually strict and strong father, Yōbu (portrayed by Kobayashi Kaoru), has sadly passed away while rescuing a mountaineer in distress. The sudden bad news catches Nagamine off guard, and he hurriedly returns home, but he can no longer hear his father's stern yet gentle reprimands. Yōbu built a small lodge at the summit of Tateyama for mountaineers to rest, having rescued many in distress and forged deep friendships with countless roving climbers. After much consideration, Nagamine decides to resign from his job and return home to run the lodge. He teams up with a girl named Takazawa Ai (portrayed by Aoi Yu), whom his father had rescued, and his father's old friend, Toda Gorō (portrayed by Toyokawa Etsuji), to breathe new life into the lodge. Mountaineers gradually arrive, their faces adorned with warm smiles that have been long missing... This film is adapted from the novel of the same name by Sasamoto Ryouhei.
