In 1982, during the bitter winter, on the vast land, people long for the arrival of spring (household production). Wang the village secretary wants to revive the old plays. "The drama basket" Lu Laohua arranges for Yang Zhigang to play the male lead, but his daughter Lu Xiaofen is unwilling. Her heart is set on Kuifengzi's son, Wang Shuman. In Kuifengzi's eyes, peanuts are his "totem." When someone steals nine and a half acres of peanuts, he is frantic, running around the streets. He finds that more than one person is taking peanuts to Lu Laohua's house... The terrifying Kuifengzi is obedient to Lu Xiaofen, following her around like a child all day. That night, a secret meeting is held at the team base to devise a land distribution plan. Unexpectedly, before the plan even warms up, Yang Zhigang steals it from the drawer overnight and publicizes it. Wang the village secretary is caught off guard. Kuifengzi and the "nine and a half acres" that have been occupied for ten years become the focus of the "land distribution." In the intertwining of "singing opera" and "land distribution," a historical tragedy unfolds. The film "Village Opera" is adapted from the first half of "Dream Zhuang Ecology" in the collection of short stories "Jia Dashan Novel Collection," mainly comprising three stories: "Village Opera," "Peanuts," and "Old Road."
