Pierre Lachenay (played by Jean Desailly) is a married writer and magazine editor who becomes infatuated with the beautiful flight attendant Nicole (played by Françoise Dorléac) during a business trip. By chance, they meet at the same hotel. Pierre invites Nicole out for a drink, and they talk all night, soon falling deeply in love. When Pierre returns to Paris, Nicole leaves her phone number in his notebook. Back home, Pierre secretly contacts Nicole behind his wife Franca's (played by Nelly Benedetti) back. He even proactively requests a business trip to Reims just to bring Nicole along and temporarily escape from his wife and daughter. In Reims, Pierre is busy with a lecture, leading to conflicts with Nicole, and they leave Reims early. By coincidence, Pierre's wife calls Reims, discovers he has left, and begins to suspect him. Eventually, Nicole grows tired of the relationship and leaves Pierre. Meanwhile, Franca is preparing to divorce Pierre. It is not until Franca finds intimate photos of Pierre and Nicole that anger and jealousy drive her to grab a shotgun and go into the street to find Pierre to settle everything...
