Jim McAllister (played by Matthew Broderick) is a teacher at Carver High School, known for his rigorous yet lively teaching style and friendly demeanor. He has received the title of Outstanding Teacher three times and is well-liked by his students. In his class, there is a girl named Tracy Flick (played by Reese Witherspoon). Tracy is proud, confident, ambitious, and actively participates in both school and extracurricular activities. With full confidence, she campaigns for the position of student body president, facing little opposition. For various reasons, Jim is dissatisfied with Tracy's actions, and he becomes embroiled in the fierce election battle at Carver High School... This film won the Best Comedy Performance award from the American Actors' Association in 1999 (Lisa Beach); the Best Screenplay award from the Florida Film Critics Circle in 2000; and three major awards at the Independent Spirit Awards in 2000, including Best Director, Best Picture, and Best Screenplay.
