At the end of 1944, a large amount of cash, commonly known as gold yuan vouchers, fell from the sky, covering the ancient county town in the deep mountains of western Sichuan. Destitute people suddenly became wealthy overnight, and the intertwining forces of greed, cunning, deception, desire, hope, redemption, national fortune, and righteousness burst forth like caged beasts. The bizarre event of falling cash led to an explosion of war advertisements appearing like bamboo shoots after rain in every street and alley—Japanese Yintan advertisements, where the old man's beard strangely concealed a war-threatening implanted commercial brand. Meanwhile, the wealthy chieftains who failed to collect cash were unwilling to miss the opportunity to get rich and resorted to counterfeiting to deceive the government. They were, however, gifted with ghost money and paper offerings by the government, which were sent as gifts to the blind Japanese soldiers on the battlefield in western Yunnan—one treasurer and accountant who vowed to complete financial tasks after being pulled from the pile of dead on the battlefield. Captain Wang Huaiyi (played by Nie Yuan) engaged in a cat-and-mouse money game with the Japanese bandits, inadvertently turning the simple-minded Niu Ergua into an anti-Japanese hero. The covert and unpredictable assistant to the captain, Jiang Yanyan (played by Huang Shengyi), utilized her triple identity as a spy for the Kwantung Army, a Nationalist agent, and an undercover agent from Yan'an to protect the cash collection efforts. At a crucial moment of national peril and ethnic crisis, the brothels, which were thriving businesses, transformed from a meat grinder battlefield into an anti-Japanese battlefield. The madam, who had long wanted the government to invest in expanding the brothel, finally awakened from the cash collection incident and led her team of women into the tide of the resistance.
